10/10/2009 – The Bethesda Christian Patriots Boy’s Varsity Soccer lost to Tri-West Bruins team. The score was 0 to 2 in a playoff contest played at Bethesda Christian Patriots.

On
October 10, the boy’s varsity soccer had a rematch against Tri-West at
sectionals. This is one of the biggest challenges they had to face all year.

The
boys came out strong in the first half. The Bethesda Patriots kept on fighting
for every single ball that was played to them. The defense held Tri-West
offense till the last ten minutes, till they scored in the first half.

At
half time coach Mike Poynter gave a speech to the soccer boys. He was telling
the team, “You guys can score on these guys and you guys can win this game.
They only beat you by one point last time. Go out there and have fun and try to
enjoy it while you can.”

The
soccer team got fired up after his speech. The senior guys gathered the whole
team and got into a huddle, and we started to yell. Bethesda Patriots went out
strong in the second half. They kept on trying, but they could not score at all
during the second half. They came so close, but some how the goalie would stop
the ball or the players missed the goal.

We
fought for every ball and went after every ball. But at the very end of the
game we came up short, losing to Tri-West by two. What kept the Patriots in the
game were the fans and the dedication of the players wanting to win their first
sectional game. Josh Busch said, “I was proud of our guys and they played with
intensity and heart.” Jonny Sublett said, “We played hard and I could not ask
for any more from my teammates.”

This
season was a great year; the team came together as one. Although the team didn’t
have a winning record, we learned a lot from each other. This year was a great
experience for the players. I think God blessed this team. He taught us a lot.
This year I think we focused on God, and that is why we had little problems on
the field.
